Description: French walks around the gardens of the castle shaking hands with people at the fête. Beside him is his aide, Lieutenant-Colonel Fitzgerald ('Fitz') Watt. The fête includes a display of horse jumping, including one lady riding sidesaddle. French gives a speech.Lord Beaverbrook stands in front of Orpen's pictures,although Orpen himself is not to be seen. Beaverbrook is approached by another war artist, C W Nevinson, and they pose for photographs; Nevinson laughs uproariously.Sullivan, a famous ex-rower, has returned from checking on the state of German prisoner of war camps. At home he digs the garden, and poses with his wife and son, and by himself.Smuts, on horseback, takes the salute as members of the Glasgow Boys' Brigade march past him. He emerges from a ceremony at Glasgow University and is congratulated by the dons, who include some women.
